How to Turn Off Automatic Numbering in Word
Microsoft Word is a productivity app and among the best in the business. However, at times a few features meant to increase the productivity of the user can become annoying.
For example, the automatic numbering feature is enabled by default on your Microsoft Word app. Whenever the user tries to enter a number followed by a period, Microsoft Word will automatically convert it to a number list. While this can be a convenient feature for many, it can be annoying for the users who don't want to use the numbered list at that time.

Another feature that can be annoying to the regular Microsoft Word user is having to change the default size and style of the font for every new document. This breaks the writer's flow and messes up the format if the writer copies texts from some other source and paste it in the Word document.
If you are annoyed by the numbered list and font options, here is how to disable automatic numbering and set default font style & size in Microsoft Word.
Disable Automatic Numbering in MS Word
Disabling automatic numbering is easy on Microsoft Word. Here is how to do it.
- Launch Microsoft Word and open the Document you want to edit. A blank document would also do.
- Click on File and select Options.
- In the Options window, click on the Proofing tab.
- Under "Autocorrect options" section click on "AutoCorrect Options" button.
- Open the "AutoCorrect as your type" tab.
- Uncheck the "Automatic numbered list" box under Apply as you type section.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Change Cut, Copy and Paste Settings
To prevent the Word document from keeping the default format from the copied source, you need to change the settings for Cut, Copy and Paste option.
- Go to File > Options.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down to the Cut, copy, and paste section.
